London’s Sadler’s Wells will be playing host next week to the brand-new show ‘Voices Of The Amazon’ created by Sisters Grimm, creators the Grammy nominated sell-out show INALA.
With a line-up of talented Brazilian dancers, including special guest dancer Nathalie Harrison from The Royal Ballet, the show will also be narrated by actor Jeremy Irons.
The co-founders are leading UK female producers, music composer Ella Spira and Pietra Mello-Pittman, whilst the sensational musical score is composed in collaboration with Brazilian songwriters and world-renowned percussionists ‘Olodum’.
The show is set in the Brazilian rainforest and follows the story of ‘Beleza’, a water spirit from the Amazon river, whose search to cure her dying sister takes her on a life-changing journey deep into the Amazon Forest. Her eyes are soon opened by the stunning natural beauty and realities of deforestation and the devastating loss of renewable medicines and plants.
The talented company of dancers, singers and musicians help bring this superb production alive with wonderful live music, singing and dancing on stage with a mix of first class ballet. The audience will leave the theatre memorized and exhilarated by a show which embraces the true spirit of Brazil.
Jeremy Irons says that he was “… very much impressed by both Pietra and Ella in the way they approached me and intrigued by the multi-media approach to the world-wide problem of deforestation and attacks upon indigenous populations. Something about their spirit came through their proposal and now having worked with them I know it will imbue the final production which I look forward to seeing.”
Darcy Bussell says that “Sisters Grimm have fused different dance genres with a captivating cast from Brazil and London, to create a new show called Voices of the Amazon at Sadler’s Wells. Choreographer Helen Pickett’s foundations are in classical ballet but here she brings together musical theatre, break dancing capoeira and live songs, which is truly exciting. The show makes us all think about the importance of accepting.”
Voices of the Amazon will be performing at Sadler’s Wells from Tuesday 4th to Saturday 8th July 2017.
