Motorhomes open you up to a wave of new travel possibilities, giving you the chance to roam the land and sleep wherever feels comfortable. It’s a budget-friendly travel idea (after the initial motorhome investment is dealt with) but where are the best countries to take your motorhome?
Well, it turns out that the UK is perfectly equipped to offer motorhome travel adventures, and these compelling reasons explain why.
Beautiful countryside, national parks and places to see
You’ll struggle to find a country with as many gorgeous places to visit as the UK. Each of the four countries that make up the United Kingdom offers something unique. You’ve got iconic valleys and mountains in Wales, lochs and National Parks in Scotland, the legendary Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland and a host of amazing places in England.
To be honest, you could tour just England and have an exceptional experience. It’s easy to find great places to visit in a motorhome in Yorkshire and Derbyshire, before journeying south and exploring the Jurassic Coast. Such is the diversity that you’re able to plan multiple trips to different parts of the country and spend weeks in each.
Plenty of main road links
Look, the quality of roads in the UK isn’t great but there’s no denying it has plenty of main roads linking different parts of the island. To give you some context, you could travel from Cornwall in the very South Western part of the UK all the way up to Scotland and the bulk of your journey is done on two roads: the M5 and M6.
It’s one of the best countries in terms of getting around in a motorhome, not to mention there will be plenty of service stations along the way to stop and rest. Make your journey even easier by using a UK road trip planner and you’ll find the quickest and most traffic-friendly routes to avoid any stress.
It’s a very good road trip size
The UK isn’t the largest country in the world by any stretch of the imagination but that makes it perfect for motorhome trips. That journey we outlined for you from Cornwall to Scotland takes just over 11 hours with traffic and you’re going from one end of the country to the other. To put it into context, a similar trip from coast to coast in the US takes a whopping 43 hours.
This island gives you a brilliant chance to enjoy adventures on the road without taking too much out of you or your vehicle. It’s entirely possible to go on a trip across and through all four countries in just a few weeks. Obviously, you can take more time if you want but there’s never a sense of being unable to do or see everything which is the case in some countries.
Looking at the bigger picture, the UK has all the hallmarks of a proper road trip destination. It makes life easier with great road links to the most popular destinations, is small enough for you to navigate in a decent amount of time and includes plenty of things to see and do. If you’ve got a motorhome that needs to see some action, take it here.
