If you are wanting to take control of your health and wellbeing then you should do this sooner rather than later. You might think you are too old to change anything, or the year is ending so what’s the point? Well, making small changes now can make a world of difference to your health. If you aren’t sure which areas to focus on, then take a look at the tips below to find out more.
Water
As an adult you should be drinking at least two litres of water a day, this equates to around eight glasses. If you are getting nowhere near this amount, then you can begin to feel the effects of dehydration setting in. This isn’t something you want to be dealing with as it can lead to quite an intense headache and feelings of lethargy. There are ways you can up your water intake adding flavoured pods is one example. These often come with added vitamins and nutrients so you can enjoy a healthy balanced diet.
Sleep
How much sleep are you getting each night? You need to be aiming for between six and nine hours to feel refreshed and energised. Life is busy and many people are missing out on vital hours of sleep. If this is you then you need to take a look at your lifestyle and see if there is anything you can change to improve your sleep cycle. It might be that you need to cut out fizzy drinks or caffeine before bed or maybe turning screens off, so you settle down quicker. If you continuously have trouble sleeping or you are waking up regularly throughout the night, then a visit to your GP could be beneficial.
Exercise
There is one thing that can help you massively when you are trying to take charge of your health. Exercise is something you should be incorporating into your daily routine for at least 30 minutes. Anything that makes you feel good, makes you smile and gets that heart rate up is good enough. So, this could be a run around the park or swimming lengths after work. The key is finding something you enjoy doing. If you don’t want to exercise in front of people, then the good news is there are plenty of workout videos you can follow along to in the comfort of your own home.
Socialise
Lastly, if your friends are asking you to go out and have some fun with them every so often then don’t be afraid to say yes. You never know when the last time they will ask is going to be, as you can only cope with so many no’s before giving up. You could then start to develop issues with your mental health as you are becoming more isolated and spending time alone. Head out with your friends for some drinks and good food, it really will put a smile on your face.
We do hope you found this helpful and interesting. Now you should feel more confident and better equipped at handling your own health and wellbeing journey.
