Freak Scene Opens New Pop-Up in 100 Wardour Street

100 Wardour Street

Renowned Australian chef Scott Hallsworth and The Evolv Collection are launching an exclusive pop-up residency called Freak Scene x 100 Wardour Street, from next Tuesday 22nd July through to November this year.

Hallsworth is known for his somewhat rebellious approach to pan-Asian cuisine, having made his name leading kitchens at Nobu London and Nobu Melbourne, before launching the critically acclaimed Kurobuta with three London locations in Chelsea, Knightsbridge and Marble Arch, blending Japanese izakaya culture with a touch of Aussie cheekiness.

Located on the ground floor of the iconic Soho venue in Wardour Street with its hip-hop music, graffiti on the toilet walls, funky artwork and cool ambience, Freak Scene’s return to Soho is the Evolv Collection’s only exclusively Asian restaurant offering.

So, what can you expect at the 100 Wardour Street pop-up? Well, it will feature a curated menu of Freak Scene favourites that include chili crab wonton bombs, miso-grilled hispi cabbage and red curry duck donut buns. There will also be some new dishes that have been developed especially for the Soho venue. You will also be able to enjoy a lively Saturday brunch.

Commenting on the new pop-up, Hallsworth said:

“This is possibly the most exciting news I’ve been able to share since founding Freak Scene all those years ago. Not only are we heading back to our Soho roots, but we get to team up with the brilliant Evolv Collection at their iconic 100 Wardour Street. I can barely wait!”

Founded by Sir Terrence Conran in 1991, the Evolv Collection is a pioneering, premium hospitality group that includes some of London’s most iconic restaurants along with locations in Birmingham, Manchester and New York, all with their own unique heritage, distinctive character, offering and ambience.

Since CEO Martin Williams took over as head of the company, one of his goals has been to modernise the company’s portfolio of brands to appeal to a broader demographic. With this in mind, the Evolv x Freak Scene partnership is his first such strategic collaboration, commenting:

“I’ve been a fan of Scott’s restaurants and food since his Kurobuta days. His creativity, edge, and attention to flavour have always set him apart. We’re proud to be hosting Freak Scene at 100 Wardour Street as the only Asian concept in our group – it’s a partnership that makes fantastic sense and promises a great future.”

Williams has also created Pont Plage a beach on the side of the Thames, opened Bluebird in South Place Hotel and created the Bluebird Club, which are two private members clubs in the City and Chelsea for the top tier of Evolv Collection regulars.
