AVI-8 recently introduced an exciting and striking new watch to their range in the shape of the Hawker Harrier Pegasus Automatic. This limited edition timepiece is as tribute to the legendary Rolls-Royce Pegasus engine which powered the revolutionary and iconic Hawker Harrier, which was informally known as the Harrier jump jet and named after the bird of prey. It was also the first jet fighter capable of vertical take offs and landing.
Developed back in the 1960s by British manufacturer Hawker Siddeley, this engineering marvel was capable of vertical take offs, precise hovering and rapid forward manoeuvres. The jet was in service for over 40 years, built between 1967 and 2003. The Harrier was used by the Royal Air Force as a ground attack and reconnaissance aircraft. It was also used by the US Marine Corp, Spanish and Italian Navies.
The Harrier was used during the Falklands War, the Gulf War as well as in Afghanistan, and was the perfect jet fighter for aircraft carriers and small, short runways.
Limited to just 500 pieces worldwide, the Hawker Harrier Pegasus Automatic Limited Edition is fitted with a Japanese automatic M-MIY-8245 movement that is housed in a 44mm piston black stainless steel case that is water resistant to 50 meters. It sits under an anti-reflection coated sapphire lens with Swiss luminous hands to improve visibility in poor light and is fitted with a genuine black leather strap.
As you can see from the photographs, every part of the watch has been inspired by the Rolls-Royce turbine engine, from the all-black case right through to the custom subdial in a nod to the Pegasus turbine’s raw power.
The AVI-8 Hawker Harrier Pegasus Automatic Limited Edition can be purchased at AVI-8.co.uk, priced at £350, and comes with a two-year warranty.
