Toe tapping at lightning speed and still managing to smile is no mean feat.
But the incredibly talented members of the Lord of the Dance show make it look so easy. And during a two hour performance they manage to clock in around 150,000 toe taps between the 40 of them.
It’s been 30 years since Irish dancer Michael Flatley took the world by storm with his fantastic feet. He was so good, he was awarded the Guinness World Record for the fastest taps per second, an amazing 35!
Now retired from dancing, Flatley is the creator, producer and director of the Lord of the Dance 30th anniversary tour, in Glasgow until Saturday.
And his magic has rubbed off on the world class performers who deliver a slick, colourful and high energy show.
The classic tells the story of good versus evil. Little Spirit (Evie Hayter) dreams that the Lord of the Dance (Lucas Lawton) represents all that is right in the world, but he is up against the evil Dark Lord (Tom Doherty) and his army of warlords.
Add to that, Morrighan the Temptress (Erin McPolin) who comes between The Lord and his true love Saoirse (Katie Coates) and Erin the Goddess (Cleo Griffin) sweetly entertaining with some angelic vocals and you have a very highly polished production.
With a stunning stage and costumes overseen by Flatley’s wife Niamh, the show is fun, frantic and full of brilliant dancing, along with fantastic fiddle skills from Siofra Devine and Iona Ritchie, who elevate the dark soundtrack by Gerard Fahy.
It’s so easy to see why Flatley and his toe tapping brilliance is still revered after three decades and the anniversary tour is testament to his determination to keep the Irish enthusiasm shining on stage!
The Lord of the Dance is at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall until Saturday 29th August. The show will then be touring around the UK in September and October before heading to Prague in the Czech Republic, Gdańsk in Poland and Bratislava in Slovakia in November as it continues its world tour.
