London’s New Year’s Day Parade (LNYDP) organisers put together a huge parade preview and rehearsal in Trafalgar Square yesterday and invited Londoners and visitors to the city to come along and enjoy the fun. We were there with our camera at the ready to take in the atmosphere.
Although the weather was rather dull and overcast, for the most part the weather behaved and everyone enjoyed the celebrations in the dry. Trafalgar Square was filled with dancers, drummers, singers and four massive marching bands, bringing the square to life with colour, music and entertainment. In fact this 33rd running of London’s New Year’s Day Parade has attracted over 8,000 participants from over 26 countries around the world, raising money for the mayoral charities across London.
This annual event normally attracts around 500,000 spectators and will be broadcast live on television both here in the UK and abroad.
Some of the performers out in Trafalgar Square yesterday included the Angelo State University Ram Band, Bolivia in London dance group, Heartburn Entertainment, who have performed at many previous events, Kaleb Lee and The Cotton Candies Marching Krewe.
Tomorrow’s New Year’s Day Parade
The parade kicks off at midday tomorrow Tuesday 1st January 2019 and you can catch all the fun and festivities along the parade route, which starts on Piccadilly and runs all the way along to Parliament Street, via Piccadilly Circus, Lower Regent Street, Waterloo Place, Pall Mall, Cockspur Street, Trafalgar Square and Whitehall.
You can expect to see thousands of performers and colourful floats from across the world, including dancers, acrobats, cheerleaders, marching bands, historic vehicles and much more, all assembled in the heart of London for a colourful celebration of contemporary performances and traditional pomp and ceremony, with huge balloons, music and confetti to kick 2019 off in real style!
So if you are planning on coming into London specially for the parade, you can watch the New Year’s Day celebrations for free along the parade route and if you get a little hungry in all the excitement, then there will be a Food Village located on Waterloo Place you can always pop along to.
