With the opening of the Milano Cortina Winter Olympic Games today and Italy energised by the Olympic spirit, where better than Hilton Lake Como, which sits on the site of a former silk factory on the slopes of Lake Como, for couples and families to stay and enjoy some sporting adventures of their own.

The region’s beautiful setting, mild climate and variety of its natural surroundings offers a wide range of outdoor activities even in the colder winter months, making it the perfect place for those of you looking to combine a little sport, some exploration and a bit of lakeside relaxation. Hilton Lake Como offers you the opportunity to play tennis illuminated by the soft winter light, a panoramic hike in the crisp winter mountain air or a day on the slopes followed by a lakeside sunset aperitivo.

Located less than an hour from Milan, it means families can experience the excitement of the Olympic Games while also enjoying the elegance and tranquillity of Lake Como.

Como Tennis Club is just 20 metres from the hotel. This prestigious club founded in 1930 and set within the historic park of Villa Olmo, offers clay, indoor and floodlit courts so you can play tennis all year-round, even on winter evenings. The tennis school offers personalised programmes, private lessons and family-friendly courses for both adults and children led by former professional player and federal coach Paolo Carobbio.

If golf is more your thing, then the renowned Carimate Golf Club is just a few minutes away. It was founded in 1962 and is set within a natural park of rolling hills and ancient woodland. The 18-hole course is open year-round and offers equipment rental, a full practice area and private lessons with qualified professionals for all age groups.

A great family activity for those who want to explore the area on foot is a winter hike on some of the region’s most memorable trails. This includes the Greenway del Lago, which is a 10-kilometre route through historic villages and lakeside villas. Alternatively, a hike to Brunate and the Volta Lighthouse offers fabulous panoramic lake views, so be sure to take your camera with you.

If you want something a little more challenging, then higher elevations can be reached in the Valle d’Intelvi and on Monte Generoso with sweeping views across multiple lakes and the distant Alps.
