Rixos Premium Dubrovnik

The recent renovation of the Rixos Premium Dubrovnik has been hit by unfortunate timing, amidst the global pandemic, however the management resiliently continued with their original reconstruction plan during the lockdown. The result: a fresh breeze on the Dubrovnik hotel scene.

The spacious lobby is dominated by an impressive view on the sea horizon. The interior by awarded Swiss interior designer Ina Rinderknecht, is a modern, elegant, vibrant assembly of colours with a café – patisserie in the centre offering an impressive selection of cakes and refreshments, including Turkish coffee rarely found in Croatian hotels. The spacious terrace is a favourite at all times of the day – a relaxing scene with comfortable sofas for the day, an elegant setting for a romantic dinner with breath-taking sunset views. The dining choice is great: former Fat Duck chef Ozgur Donertas’s Mediterranean fine dining – think refreshing salads with tomatoes from the hotel’s own garden and fresh Adriatic fish with lime scented sauce, a local take on paella and excellent locally sourced dry aged beef and a choice of Croatia and Turkey inspired deserts. The new teppanyaki restaurant is both fun and delicious but prepare to skip lunch that day for a great dinner at sunset.

Rixos Premium Dubrovnik hotel spa and pool

The rooms at the Rixos offer a light, fresh and simple feel where the view seems to be the predominant décor. All rooms come with a spacious terrace.

The walk to the swimming pool and beach area is through a charming corridor filled with details from UNESCO protected Dubrovnik which, many agree, is one of the most beautiful towns in the world. There are two main swimming pools – indoor and outdoor, equally delightful for adults and children. The beach is set on natural rocks and it will please nature lovers as the sea is great for diving and swimming. If you are used to sandy beaches with easy access to the sea, you might want to stick to the swimming pool. This is a great area to spend the day with a good selection of snacks, fruits and meals and a traditional pizza oven. Coffee lovers should try the selection of iced coffees for a tasty refreshment.

Spa Treatment

Don’t miss visiting the SPA with a selection of wonderful relaxation areas – including a salt room and the only Turkish hammam in Croatia, I especially enjoyed the incredible selection of teas and the Dubrovnik inspired treatments such as a massage with natural oils crafted in the 700 year old Pharmacy “Male braće” believed to be one of the oldest in Europe.

The massage at the SPA comes with a charming twist – once you have had your massage with the oil you choose, you can take the remaining bottle home. What a great souvenir crafted in a 700-year-old pharmacy!

Looking out over the Adriatic Sea

Although it is likely you will spend the days outside – Dubrovnik is one of the sunniest places in Europe, the Rixos Premium Dubrovnik has solutions for a day fully spent at the hotel. It is like a resort without the resorty feel. There is a nice selection of pool tables and the biggest table football I have come across. Sports lovers will appreciate the sports bar with big screens dedicated to global sports. The bar turns into a jazz bar inthe evening with live music and a good wine list.

I like the location of the hotel, set on the rocks on the open sea,  and just a seven minute drive and 20 minute walk to the Old Town. Although Dubrovnik is a favourite destination for the summer months, it is even more charming in other seasons. Now it has a hotel rightly equipped for you to enjoy the destination all year round.
