Ever tried to take a family selfie by resting your phone on a misshapen sofa? Me too. Ever got it perfect the first time? Or the second? Or the third? Me neither. Someone always has their eyes closed, is pulling someone’s hair or has crumbs on their chin. And that’s just when it’s me and my wife. Add children into the mix and you have yourself a real challenge. So when I am introduced to the PNY Universal Tripod and Wireless Remote, I know that both my patience and my family photo albums are about to improve dramatically.
The PNY Tripod comes with a wireless Bluetooth remote, meaning the days of frantically sprinting back and forth from my phone and shouting “EVERYONE STAY STILL AND LOOK HAPPY” are over. This thing is made from stainless steel, which is lucky as my 3-year-old decides not to sit still as instructed and instead boot the tripod over, which survives in-perfect-tact. Hopefully I can say the same for my phone. Once we’ve mastered the classic family shot, I realise that this has a 2-screw thread for switching the phone to portrait mode – ideal, as both of my kids are now clambering all over my wife’s shoulders.
I learn that this can hold not only a phone but also a DSLR camera, although I’m not willing to experiment with that as my sugar-fuelled terrors are getting restless and starting to wreak havoc. Luckily this ‘photoshoot’ took a fraction of the time of our usual attempts, and we also achieved the impossible. Yes, we got a photo with everybody’s eyes open.
