Peru Travel Tips for First Timers

Machu Picchu in Peru

If you are going to Peru for the first time, then you will know how daunting it can be. You may feel as though you have a lot of things that you need to plan and that you also struggle to know what steps you need to take in order to make your trip a success. If you want to find out more then take a look below.

Accommodation

The first thing you need to do is try to book accommodation. Stay in hotels that have a minimum of 3 stars. There really are a lot of fancy hotels there, but at the end of the day you do want to get value for your money. Try not to stay in anything with a lesser rating if you want to have a nice, relaxing stay, as a lot of the time the hotels that have a lower star rating don’t even have basic amenities and so you may end up missing out on making the most of your trip. Cusco is also quite a touristy city and there are a lot of hotels to choose from. This can lead to hotel prices being quite high, but a good work around here would be for you to try and book a few days before you are due to travel as this can result in you getting a good discount on everything.

Activities

You will want to try to plan your activities in advance as much as possible. If you do want to do something special, like the Inca Trail, then it’s wise to make sure that you plan ahead of time and that you also make sure that you have the right accommodation booked. If you do this then you will find it easier to not only feel confident in your trip but also make sure that you’re not missing out on any of the wonderful things that there are to do in the country.

Food and drink

As for food and drink, you need to make sure that you don’t drink the tap water. Although you can use it to rinse your mouth after you have brushed your teeth, it’s better to do it with bottled water if you can. As the water can cause some digestive issues if you have some sensitivities, it’s wise to try to only eat at highly rated restaurants to ensure you have the best overall experience.  You might also want to make sure that you avoid greens or fresh salads, as there’s a good chance that they will have been rinsed with water and could potentially cause issues.

So, as you can see, travelling to Peru can be an exciting experience but at the same time you do need to make sure that you prepare for your trip and take the time to make sure that everything is organised and set up properly. If you don’t then you may find that you end up not getting the most out of your trip, which is the last thing you need.
