Standing in the queue with Dr Frank-N-Furter and Riff Raff was a great introduction to the joys of The Rocky Horror fan club.
With good humour and a dash of scariness the enthusiasts were gnashing their teeth in anticipation for the first night of this epic show at the Pavilion Theatre in Glasgow. And their exuberance carried on throughout the performance as they joined in with humorous add-ons to carry the cast through what was a fabulous night.
Richard O’Brien’s Rocky Horror Show has been touring for more than 50 years and watched by over 35 million theatregoers.
It’s a story of two squeaky clean college kids, Brad Majors (James Bisp) and his fiancée Janet Weiss, (played on the opening night by Stacey Monahan), who are on their way to see their old college professor, Dr Everett V. Scott (Edward Bullingham) when their car breaks down not far from a creepy looking castle.
They knock on the door to use the phone for help, and their lives take a very strange twist as they discover who is behind the big door.
The master of the house is Dr Frank-N-Furter (Stephen Webb), a sweet transvestite from Transylvania and mad manipulative scientist who is hell bent on creating the perfect man for his own hedonistic desires.
With no boundaries, anything goes and Brad and Janet are “treated” to a night of madness which goes from massive highs to realistic lows.

All three actors blend brilliantly and clearly relish their roles and Jesse Chidera is perfect as the opening night’s Rocky, with her rendition of “The Sword of Damocles”, spine chillingly good.
Joined by Ryan Carter-Wilson as Riff Raff, Laura Bird playing Magenta and Beth Perrins as Columbia, the show is a joy from start to finish.
Directed by Christopher Luscombe, the show is packed with classic songs including “Touch-A-Touch-A-Touch Me”, “Sweet Transvestite” and everyone’s favourite, “Time Warp”.
But it’s the interaction between the audience and the cast which makes it a timeless classic. Jackie Clune is the star of the show as the hilarious narrator, who indulges the audience and takes the inevitable risky interruptions in her stride.
A fun packed and different night out which left everyone with a smile on their face!
