Celebrate National Martini Day with Vodka and Sake Martinis

Martini Day Cocktail

Today is National Martini Day and so we thought it only fitting to look at a couple of alternative refreshing martini recipes given the unseasonably hot weather we are currently enjoying here in the UK at the moment, both of which you can enjoy at home with friends as the sun goes down on a balmy summer’s evening.

Our first cocktail is the Altamura Distilleries Martini made with Altamura Vodka, which is distilled from Italy’s ancient Altamura durum wheat, a rare and protected grain that has remained unchanged for over 2,000 years, known for its rich heritage in Puglia and gives it a smooth, distinctive flavour that is both elegant and refined.

It is distilled using a meticulous process that preserves the distinct flavours of the wheat, giving it a subtle aniseed and pepper as well as lemon zest flavour that is derived from Altamura wheat.

Altamura Distilleries has also just been named the ‘Official Vodka Partner of The World’s 50 Best Hotels’.

To create the beautifully crisp Altamura Distilleries Martini you will need 60 ml Altamura Vodka, 20 ml Carpano Dry Vermouth and 2 dashes of Orange Bitter. Simply stir the ingredients and strain into a Martini glass and garnish with a lemon twist for the perfect martini.

Sake ONO Martini

Our second cocktail for National Martini Day is the ONO Martini made with Sake ONO, which was recently launched in the UK and blends centuries-old Japanese brewing traditions with a forward-thinking, modern approach. Its launch expression, a Junmai Daiginjo, is an elegant, pure and finely crafted sake with a bright, crisp profile and notes of honeydew, lemon peel, white florals and green apple that can be enjoyed neat, paired with food or simply stirred into cocktails such as the ONO Martini.

To make this rather special martini, you will need some Sake ONO Junmai Daiginjo with its floral, soft and dry finish, a vodka of your choice, a dash of cucumber or elderflower liqueur for some summer infusion and a lemon or lime citrus twist to add some aromatic brightness.

So, however you decide to celebrate National Martini Day, perhaps these two versatile, refreshing and delicious cocktails will tempt you to create a slightly different tipple this year.

Altamura Vodka, 70cl, 43% ABV is available to buy at Master of Malt, priced at £36.25 and on Amazon priced at £44.08. For more information about Altamura Distilleries and its products, please visit www.altamuradistilleries.com.

Sake ONO is available in 300ml and 750ml bottles through select boutique retailers and online at www.drinksone.com.
