A-Rosa Announces Name Of Ground-Breaking New River Ship

A-Rosa River Cruises has revealed that its pioneering eco-friendly new river ship will be called A-Rosa Sena – a name taken from the Arabic language which means beauty.

Setting sail in May 2022, the vessel will feature innovative ‘E-Motion’ technology which is also a first for river ships. The hybrid propulsion system combines a diesel engine and a separate electric engine that is powered by batteries. This means that when approaching a port, A-Rosa Sena can switch to battery power, enabling it to arrive almost silently and emission-free. The ship can be charged overnight by shore power connection.

A-Rosa Sena will be the largest ship in the 13-strong fleet and the first vessel on the Rhine to feature four decks – instead of the usual three – and will accommodate 280 passengers in five different cabin categories. The ship is also aimed specifically at families and multi-generational groups and will include other facilities that are unique to river vessels including a dedicated kid’s club, family cabins sleeping up to five, an adult pool and a separate children’s pool.
