Award-winning river cruise and escorted tour specialist Riviera Travel celebrated the launch of its latest five-star cruise ship the MS Riviera Radiance, with its official naming ceremony at the end of November at a festive themed event on the Danube in Budapest.
This follows the ship’s maiden voyage earlier this year as the brand expands its portfolio of ships.
Sarah Roberts, CEO of Practical Action, Riviera Travel’s official charity for tackling poverty and climate change, was chosen to be Godmother of MS Riviera Radiance.
This reflects the two organisations shared commitment to responsible travel and rather than christening the ship with the traditional champagne smash against the hull, the moment was marked with a more environmentally friendly pouring of the champagne over a beautiful ice sculpture of the ship.
Practical Action CEO, Sarah Roberts, commented:
“It’s a privilege to work alongside Riviera Travel on a partnership that truly reflects shared values. Their commitment to responsible travel and long-term support has already made a meaningful difference to communities in Kisumu, and it’s inspiring to see how deeply they care about creating positive impact. Together, we’re demonstrating what’s possible when purposeful travel and practical, people-centred solutions come together – improving lives, protecting the environment, and empowering communities to shape their own futures.”
During the ceremony Riviera Travel unveiled their fleet expansion plans, confirming the launch of MS Riviera Resplendence this year, followed by the MS George Eliot next year, which will be the world’s first river cruise ship dedicated entirely to solo travellers, a market that is growing every year. These new launches underline the company’s position as the leader in river cruises and ambition to speed up their growth and continue investing in elevating the guest experience across European waterways.

MS Riviera Radiance has been designed specifically for the British market with a striking lobby that creates a real sense of space. There is a new split level layout that connect the lounge, bar and restaurant for a lighter and more dynamic atmosphere. Whilst the cabins have been inspired by boutique hotels and are fitted with bespoke furnishings.
The ship also has a third new dining venue, Mosaic, unsurprisingly inspired by mosaic tiles. The restaurant brings together some of the finest elements of European cuisine to create a warm, intimate dining experience.
Phil Hullah, CEO of Riviera Travel, added:
“We could not be prouder of MS Riviera Radiance. She reflects everything we stand for – innovation, exceptional quality, understated luxury and the kind of experience that keeps our guests travelling with us time and time again. With our most spacious suites to date and the introduction of a third dining venue, Riviera Radiance sets a new standard on Europe’s waterways. We are already receiving glowing feedback from guests who have travelled on the ship so far. Her naming ceremony, alongside the confirmation of two further ships for 2027 and 2028, marks an exciting new chapter for Riviera and our future.”
MS Riviera Radiance is now sailing on the Danube with itineraries that include Hungary, Slovakia and Austria. For more information and to explore some of the cruises, please visit: www.rivieratravel.co.uk.
