First glimpse of Bluff House is from the water where we spot the pretty yellow resort at the end of its own private jetty. Formerly a private home, Bluff House is one of the oldest resorts in The Out islands and sits on the highest point of Green Turtle Cay in 12 lush acres.
The resort has a secluded powder-sand beach and its rooms and suites have sea views, either out to the Sea of Abacos or to the marina where you can see boats bobbing on the water. It is impossible not to feel relaxed here – the hotel has a welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff. Totally uncommercialised, the resort does not have banana boats or beach vendors. Instead expect total tranquillity – not for nothing is the beach bar called the Tranquil Turtle. Although there are a number of restaurants and beach bars on the island, the food at Bluff House’s Ballyhoo is excellent and like everything here, served with a smile.
There are 4 lower deluxe suites and 4 upper luxury suites, 2 one-bedroom villas, 2 two-bedroom villas and 2 three-bedroom villas. All villas have comfortable traditional furnishings, refrigerator, TV, balcony, air conditioning, coffee and tea maker and plenty of nice toiletries. Some suites have kitchens.
There are two dining options at Bluff House. Ballyhoo Bar and Grill has a casual, nautical feel and overlooks the marina. Choose from steaks, barbeque and fresh fish or pasta, ribs and burgers. Drinks from the bar can be enjoyed on a lounger at the hotel’s freshwater pool. Theme nights feature local specialities and live music.
The Tranquil Turtle beach bar is open for breakfast, lunch and drinks. This is a relaxed, toes in the sand place with great cocktails – don’t miss the signature Tranquil Turtle itself! This is the place for socialising during Happy Hour. Service is second to none with all staff willing to go the extra mile to make guests happy.
Activities in The Abacos tend to centre on the water, with the 120-mile chain of Abaco islands renowned for their calm waters and soft breezes. Bluff House can arrange boat rental, snorkel, scuba and kayaking trips. The area is also popular for bonefishing. The swimming pigs of The Exumas may be well known, but pigs are also found here in The Abacos. Take a tour with local dive master Brendal to see them at No Name Cay, stopping to spot parrots, turtles and stingrays which can be stroked while eating scraps of fish from between your toes.

Green Turtle Cay is an island in The Abacos chain of islands in The Islands of The Bahamas. Visitors can arrive from Treasure Cay International Airport from Miami, then take a five-minute taxi ride to the Treasure Cay ferry dock from where the ferry can drop you right at the Bluff House dock. Or fly into Marsh Harbour International Airport which is a 35-minute taxi ride to the Treasure Cay ferry dock.
