Japanese watch brand Orient who celebrated its 75th anniversary last year, has released five new Mako 40 Diver Design models to its iconic diver design series. These new timepieces are housed in a compact 39.9mm case and have gradation dials in five fresh modern colours. The sporty and casual styling make them an ideal and practical everyday watch.
Since their launch back in the 1960s, Orient’s diver design models have represented everything that the brand stands for. Continuing this design lineage, the Orient Mako model has become popular not only for its practicality but also for its refined designs should you wish to wear the watch for business or casual leisure use. Not only is it water resistance to 200 metres, but it also has a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass. At its heart is an in-house automatic bi-directional winding movement allowing the watch to be fully wound in a short amount of time and in-house calibre F6722 offering stable accuracy of +25 seconds to -15 seconds per day.
The new Mako 40 Diver Design model has a compact 12.8mm thick stainless steel case with a case design that omits the crown guard. The uni-directional rotating bezel highlights the solid texture of the stainless steel, and it has a rather subtle date display.
The new dials have a sunburst finish that creates subtle shifts in colour depending on the angle of light and feature a circular gradation that transitions from light in the centre to dark on the outer edges that create a sense of depth.
The five new colours emphasis the watch’s metallic texture and include green, navy-blue and brown dials for the regular models plus a stylish grey and a warm copper dial for the 2026 Spring-Summer models.
The distinctive new dials include the adoption of the same indices design as Diver Design’s bar indices, an arrow-shaped hour hand and a diamond-shaped minute hand with an elongated tip that reaches the minute scale. The high luminosity of Luminous Light means you can read the time in poor light as well as in the dark.
The new models have a screw caseback with a Dolphin icon and screw-down crown and is fitted to a 20mm wide stainless steel metal bracelet with a trifold deployant buckle with push button and security latch.
These five new Orient Mako 40 Diver Design models are available to buy from the Orient UK website, priced from £379.99.
