Orient Star M42 Diver 1964 75th Anniversary Limited Edition

Orient Star M42 Diver 1964 75th Anniversary Watch

Japanese watch brand Orient Star has launched the limited-edition Orient Star M42 Diver 1964 1st Edition F6 Date 200m model from the Sports Collection M42 to mark its 75th anniversary.

This modern take model is based on the 1964 Olympics Calendar Diver timepiece and features a special dial inspired by the night sky and the depths of the sea.

Back in 1951 when Orient Star was first established, the company set about creating mechanical timepieces worthy of being called ‘shining stars’. Today, Orient Star looks to the universe – the origin of time itself – for inspiration. This is why the new M Collections are designed around the theme of nebulae and star clusters and have a heritage of diver’s watch development that dates back to the early 1960s.

The Sports Collection M42 is named after the great nebula in Orion who in Greek mythology is said to be the son of Poseidon, the ancient god of the sea. The vintage look is reminiscent of the 1964 Olympia Calendar Diver.

To commemorate Orient Star’s 75th anniversary, this latest model features a special dial design symbolising both the brand’s eternal theme of stars in the night sky and its long history of creating diver models.

The dial’s gradation of blue-grey in the centre blackening towards the circumference illustrates the ever-changing ocean surface as it reflects the shimmering stars in the night sky with the theme “the night sky and the deep sea”. In addition, the transition in tone from light to dark conveys the world that stretches from the ocean’s surface to the deep sea.

Whilst the gradation dial of this limited-edition model offers a distinct variation from the previous black and silver dials, the dial details, including the unique arrow-shaped hand, three-dimensionally cut indices, rotating bezel made of solid stainless steel, case shape with sharp-edged lugs and no crown guard, very much reflect the design of the original Olympia Calendar Diver model.

The high-quality stainless steel 41mm case features a screw-down crown, screw caseback engraved with the words “Orient Star 75th Anniversary” and serial number. It is also water resistant to 200 metres, making it scuba diving compliant with the ISO 6425 standard for divers’ watches. And to meet diver’s watch standards, the automatic movement is an in-house calibre F6N47 providing stable high accuracy of +25 seconds to -15 seconds per day and a 50-hour power reserve. The indicator showing the power reserve’s remaining running time is a feature rarely seen on divers’ watches.

The metal bracelet is made from the same high-quality stainless steel as the case and is fitted with a deployant buckle with push button, security latch and divers’ extension, making the watch practical for marine sports and everyday use.

The new Orient Star M42 Diver 1964 75th Anniversary Limited Edition, which is limited to 700 pieces, is available to buy from the Orient UK website, priced from £1,129.99.
