Eden Mill Opens World-Class Distillery in St Andrews

Eden Mill Distillery

Eden Mill has just opened its impressive new distillery and visitor centre on the banks of the Eden Estuary. This brand-new multi-million-pound site combines Scotland’s rich distilling tradition with modern sustainability to create a world-class destination for both local and international visitors.

Visitors to the new distillery are now able to enjoy immersive gin and whisky tours as well as being able to purchase exclusive bottlings in the distillery’s retail space.

There is also a 40-seat cocktail bar called The Lookout located on the distillery’s top floor with panoramic views across the water towards the St Andrews skyline. The bar serves an eclectic range of classic and contemporary cocktails paired with cheese and charcuterie boards from a local deli and is open from midday until 10:00pm during the week.

There is even a state-of-the-art golf simulator you can try your hand at, that pays tribute to the town’s affinity with golf. This means you can enjoy a leisurely round of The Old Course, as well as a number of famous Scottish and international courses whilst sipping your G&T.

The new distillery is powered entirely by renewable energy and is located at the heart of the University of St Andrews Eden Campus, which is a unique site dedicated to sustainable businesses and research.

Euan Kinninmonth, Brand Home Manager at Eden Mill, commented:

“The vision was to create a distillery and visitor centre that would celebrate the town’s rich distilling heritage, highlighting St Andrews as a must-visit destination for spirits tourism. I’m delighted to say that this vision is now a reality. It’s a landmark moment – not just for Eden Mill, but for St Andrews as a whole.

“On a personal level, I will become the fourth generation of my family to work on the site of the old paper mill which is a real source of pride given I was born and raised in the area.”

Eden Mill distillery was established back in 2012 on the banks of the Eden Estuary in St Andrews and was the first distillery to make spirits in the region in over 150 years. 13 years later, Eden Mill now boasts a unique selection of limited release Single Malts as well as an extensive gin portfolio crafted from the finest botanicals, many of which are sourced from in and around Fife.

Another benefit to the opening of the new distillery, is that it has created 18 new jobs in the local area and offers a rich blend of tradition, innovation and hospitality.

The immersive gin and whisky experiences give visitors the opportunity to explore the history and taste Eden Mill’s signature range and hear about the stories behind their award-winning spirits. There is even a hands-on Gin Cocktail Masterclass where you can take over and shake up your very own cocktails.

For those of you who prefer whisky, then the Cask Mastery Whisky Experience throws in a chauffeur transfer to and from St Andrews, followed by a journey through Eden Mill’s premium collection of malts as well as a behind the scenes visit to the ‘Distiller’s Lab’ and on-site cask warehouse.

Having completed your tour, you can pay a visit to the bright and contemporary retail space which sells Eden Mill’s full range of gins and whiskies as well as distillery exclusive bottlings and locally sourced gifts such as prints, chocolates and even reclaimed whisky wood products.

To mark the new distillery’s opening, Eden Mill has released a single cask sherry matured whisky which you can only purchase from the distillery’s retail space. The Oloroso hogshead, which was originally filled in 2016, contains only 279 bottles, making it a rare and memorable release. It follows their other single cask expressions which have each sold out in a matter of hours.
