Disney are the experts when it comes to creating spectacular and dazzling shows.
And Aladdin the Musical has flown into Glasgow to kick start its UK tour with a real panache for colour and creativity.
It’s literally an all singing, all dancing performance with a fabulously expensive set, costumes and a wide eyed and bushy tailed cast.
And the packed audience at The Theatre Royal in Glasgow just loved it, with young and old laughing at the corny jokes, singing along to the Disney classics and having a great old time.
This upmarket pantomime runs until 30th November and it’s definitely worth a visit, with a storyline based on the 1991 Disney film under the direction of Alan Menken.
There is a senses explosion with fabulous scene design by Bob Crowley and costumes from Gregg Barnes, with musical director, Dave Rose conducting with a real sense of fun. Jeremy Chernick’s special effects are stunning, only outclassed by fabulous illusions by Rob Lake.
Gavin Adams plays a handsome Aladdin, wooing Princess Jasmine (Desmonda Cathabel) while her father, the Sultan (Jo Servi) watches on.
He is joined by three besties, Kassim (Nay-Nay), Babkak (Nelson Bettercourt) and Omar (Adam Taylor), the trio clearly enjoying their comical roles.
But the star of the show has to be Yeukayi Ushe, as the Genie, with some great one liners and a fabulous singing voice.
Smaller roles including Jafar (Adam Strong), Iago (Angelo Paragoso) are well drilled, along with Georgia Gillam and Harriet Millier as attendants, Dammi Aregbeshola as the fortune teller, Kerry Spark playing Razoul and Aaron Elijah Patel as Prince Abdullah.
With some fantastic songs including “A Whole New World” and “Somebody’s Got Your Back”, the show has a real wow to it and finishes in typical Disney glamour with a flash, a bang and a wall of glitter!
With four performances each weekend until Saturday 30th November during its Glasgow run, there is no excuse to miss the show, which then moves to The Liverpool Empire from 11th December to 5th January 2025. For ticket information, please visit: www.atgtickets.com and www.disneytickets.co.uk.
