Last month Japanese watch brand Orient Star launched its latest Contemporary Date models with a refined interpretation of the popular timepieces incorporating some elegant new dial designs. The collection includes a 75th anniversary model limited to 1,200 pieces along with two regular models.
This is hot on the heels of the launch of the M42 Diver 1964 75th Anniversary Limited Edition at the end of April.
As well as an updated power reserve indicator, the trendy, nuanced colours bring a fresh image and contemporary appeal to the brand’s popular signature model with three centre hands, a date display and Orient Star’s signature power reserve indicator which has been simplified, with the previous combination of three-dimensional scale parts and printed numerals now replaced with printed details alone, bringing better consistency to the dial. In addition, the indices have changed from rounded to a sharp, edgy shape that emphasises the watch’s modern style while at the same time preserving the character of the Contemporary Date.
The dial’s finishing and colours have been updated with a sandblast pattern pressed on the surface of the new dials to create a rough texture, finished with a clear coating to accentuate the contrast of the two effects so that the subtle shade of purple and beige dial colours of the regular models pair perfectly with the polished finish, giving the watches a modern feel.
By way of contrast, the limited edition 75th anniversary Contemporary Date model features a renewed dial with a green gradation inspired by the aurora with the words “Orient Star 75th Anniversary” and serial number engraved on the caseback.
The stainless steel case is 38.5mm in diameter and is fitted with a high-quality stainless steel (SUS316L) metal bracelet. It is water resistant to 100 metres making the models both practical and suitable for any occasion be it for business or everyday casual use.
At its heart is an automatic in-house calibre F6N43 movement that provides stable high accuracy of +25 seconds to -15 seconds per day and a 50-hour power reserve.
The two new regular Orient Star Contemporary Date models are available to buy from the Orient UK website, priced from £539.99 and the 75th Anniversary model is priced at £569.99.
