Japanese watchmaker Seiko has introduced two new diver watches from the Seiko Prospex collection in time for summer, reinforcing the brand’s long-standing heritage in creating reliable, adventure-ready timepieces with each watch reflecting a different chapter of Seiko’s diving legacy.
Prospex is a combination of the words ‘Professional’ and ‘Specifications’. Therefore, Seiko Prospex timepieces are designed to be practical, reliable and durable so they meet the high standards required in extreme conditions for both sports lovers and adventure seekers.
Inspired by the brand’s 1968 world’s first revolutionary hi-beat Diver’s watch, the Seiko Prospex ‘Marinemaster’ 1968 Diver’s Reinterpretation 300m in High Contract Black was crafted at the Shizukuishi Watch Studio in Japan’s Iwate prefecture and has been specially created for divers.
The 42.6mm stainless steel case houses an automatic 8L35 calibre movement which is highly reliable, robust and accurate to +15/-10 seconds per day with a 50-hour power reserve. This is married to a stainless steel bracelet with a three-fold clasp with secure lock and push button release.
It has a black dial under the dual-curved sapphire crystal glass with a subtle sand-like pattern and has been designed for high contrast under water and optimised for diving conditions including the crown in the comfortable 4 o’clock position, strong Lumibrite for legibility at even the darkest depths and a unidirectional rotating bezel as per ISO Diving standard.
The Seiko Prospex ‘Marinemaster’ 1968 Diver’s Reinterpretation is priced at £2,580 and available to buy at Seikoboutique.co.uk.
The second watch is the Seiko 145th Anniversary Prospex Diver’s Watch 1965 Heritage Limited Edition in Silverstone and commemorates the 145th Anniversary of when Seiko started as a Tokyo clock and repair shop back in 1881.
And it was in 1965 that Seiko created Japan’s first ever diver’s watch, which was a groundbreaking timepiece that began the brand’s heritage in innovative diving watch designs.
The 40mm stainless steel case houses an in-house 6R55 automatic calibre movement that gives a 72-hour power reserve and accuracy of -15/+25 seconds per day. It features a super-hard coating for durability as well as an aluminium insert unidirectional rotating bezel designed for safe diving use.
It is attached to a short pitch length stainless steel bracelet with a three-fold clasp with secure lock and push button release and is water resistant to 300 metres and made for professional divers.
The watch features a silver dial with LumiBrite on the hands and indices for enhanced clarity in the darkest depths of water while the second hand and bezel are in a shade of ‘Seiko Blue’ and the case back has a ‘Limited Edition’ engraving on it.
The Seiko 145th Anniversary Prospex Diver’s Watch 1965 Heritage, which is limited to 4,000 pieces, is priced at £1,300 and available to pre-order at Seikoboutique.co.uk.
