Poles To Protect This Winter

Peace and solitude are important in these strange times that we are living.

Taking to the hills to explore and enjoy the natural beauty of our surroundings is more important than ever now and let’s face it, Britain has some of the finest landscape in the world.

To make sure you get the best from your adventures, it’s important to ensure you have the right equipment, and a key one for walkers is a trekking pole to help you on your way.

Austrian experts Komperdell have many years’ experience in designing and manufacturing top of the range poles which are not only lightweight and convenient, but which pack away to ensure easy carrying.

Their latest poles which are a must addition to the Christmas list are The C3 Carbon Compact (£139.95), the Ridgehiker Cork Powerlock (£85.95), the TrekMaster (£79.95) and The Walker Compact (£54.95).

Top of the range carbon compact poles are best renowned for being versatile and lightweight and so are ideal for everyone from day hikers through to alpine rock climbers.

The poles have a powerlock on them to allow you to extend or shorten them and there is an extended grip zone which is ideal for steep terrain. The lower part of the pole is made from Titanal for added strength where needed and has interchangeable baskets.

The Ridgehiker and the TrekMaster are two classic favourites, with the Ridgehiker poles also lightweight and able to pack down small. They feature the reliable and easy to use powerlock adjustment mechanism and have a very comfortable cork grip and padded strap. Being only 57cms in length, means the poles can be packed away easily for travel or storage.

The Trekmaster is one of the cheaper options and the most basic of the designs but are enhanced greatly by the clever powerlock mechanism which makes them extremely durable and reliant for hill walking and trekking.

Again, the poles can be shortened, these to a minimum of 58cms. The Walker Compact is the baby of the pole family and is a sturdy walking aide which features an ergonomically shaped cork grip with a padded strap and is made of aluminium, so is light-weight and packs to a neat, small size (46cms), making it an ideal walking companion.
