With a high five and a spin of the tail and the juicy fish was down Tofu’s throat in a blink of an eye.
And with a cheeky grin, Tofu was back in the water and enjoying a leisurely swim in his super home at Sea Life in Loch Lomond.
Tofu is one of many stars at this lovely wee centre at Balloch. The Asian short-clawed otter is a sociable fella, like the rest of his family and feeding time is a wonderful way to see this special animal close up and interacting with kind and patient keepers.
The centre is divided up into aquarium and creature sections, with amazing animals, like a rare albino dogfish, to becoming the first in Scotland to successfully rear a big-bellied seahorse.
Newly introduced Government cuts in VAT mean the ticket prices are down and fun for all the family, with the online option adding further discount, so there is no excuse over the holidays not to visit this beautiful place.
The tropical reef is where April, the rescued Olive Ridley turtle lives. Rescued from The Maldives in 2021, she was injured and not able to look after herself in the wild.
She now lives a lovely life, alongside the ever smiley Cownose and Native Rays and is close to the deep water loch tank full of native species of sharks hailing from the UK.
A favourite place is the rockpool where star fish and colourful sea anemones live in the shallow water. It’s fabulous to see them so close and find out all the fascinating facts such as how starfish have no brain, heart or blood, instead they have a specialised stomach, which is ejected out of their body to digest the food.
There are several ways to visit the centre, from a normal admission ticket to buying a combined Sweeney Co’s cruise on Loch Lomond with a visit for £39 if booked online or VIP experiences like feeding the sharks from the top of the Ocean Tank or at night and for a very special time, a sleepover for groups of 20 to 40, where guests are taken around the aquarium and have the chance to watch a film in the 300 seat cinema before tucking into food and enjoying a snooze in the Ocean Tunnel.
The aquarium centre is open daily from 10:00am to 5:00pm with free parking at the nearby shopping complex and Sea Life has lots of special offers and discounted tickets. For more information, please visit: www.visitsealife.com.
