Yesterday was International Rum Day, and what better time for Ian Macleod Distillers to launch their brand-new Smokehead Rum Rebel, Smokehead Islay Single Malt Whisky, which is finished in rich Caribbean rum casks and comes in new eye-catching bottling.
Smokehead Rum Rebel is a rich, smoky, salty Islay whisky, finished in spicy, sweet Caribbean rum casks which creates a “culture colliding carnage and a melding of mouth-watering tastes.” Their words not mine!
Always keen to be a little disruptive, Smokehead’s new release offers rum fans a tantalising twist on normal rums, tempting them over to the Smokehead whisky dark side.
To celebrate International Rum Day, Smokehead have also created a brand-new, bold cocktail that may not be to every rum fan’s taste but is well worth a try. It’s called the Rum Rebel Smokito and offers a somewhat confounding twist on their favourite drink that’s unlike anything they’ve attempted before. The warm dried spices and fruity sweetness win through with Smokehead’s signature extremes of peat and punch.
If you fancy giving it a try yourself, you will need 50ml Smokehead Rum Rebel, 25ml lime juice mixed with 25ml water, 2 teaspoons sugar, fresh mint and a few flakes of smoked Maldon sea salt.
To prepare, simply add mint and sugar to the glass and stir for two minutes. Then add the lime and water and stir for a further minute until all the sugar has dissolved. You can then add some ice and pour the Smokehead into a highball glass. Sprinkle with a few flakes of smoked Maldon sea salt and then sit back and savour the taste!

Smokehead Rum Rebel joins the range of Smokehead Original, Smokehead High Voltage and their most recent release Sherry Bomb, which is a smoky Islay single malt that has been boldly blasted by sherry casks.
