Adventurous author Simon Parker decided there was only one thing to do when the shenanigans of American politics started to rear their heads. And that was to hop on his bike and head across the pond to see what the Americans on the street really think about the race to the White House.
On the way, Simon had so much fun and met incredible locals who not only debated their political opinions with glee, but also showed kindness and embraced the adventure.

His initial journey was prompted by frustration of the shallow headlines focusing only on Donald Trump, guns and division and Simon decided the only way to get a clear picture was to see for himself.
He wanted to see if the America of his teenage dreams really did exist and so travelled through 11 states exploring epic wildernesses, mountains and long straight roads, meeting hundreds of ordinary people behind the click-bait news posts.
Travelling determinedly and tag teamed by inquisitive birds of prey, staying with old friends in towns and farmland and visiting rodeos, churches, cook-outs and diners, Simon found a land and a people of huge generosity, but also of immense consumption, poverty and disenfranchisement. A land where portrayal has become vastly over-simplified and underestimated.
The book is an easy read from an established author who has worked across a wide range of themes and subjects and reported from more than 100 countries as diverse as the “migrant crisis” in Greece to social inequality in the barrios of Northern Columbia.
Having enjoyed adventures such as solo paragliding through the Andes and driving a rickshaw across the length of India, Simon is at home travelling and meeting new people and challenges and his new book is a perfect testament to his “get up and go” spirit.
