Last month we wrote about the AVI-8 Dambuster 617 Squadron 80th Anniversary Dual Time Chronograph which was created to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Operation Chastise, paying homage to the historic Dambusters Raid with the Avro Lancaster Bomber and their brave airmen.

So, it’s only fitting in this anniversary year that AVI-8 should produce a second timepiece to mark Remembrance Day named the Dambuster 80th Anniversary Royal British Legion Meca-quartz Limited Edition.

This exclusive limited edition watch pays tribute to the daring and skilful operation undertaken by the Royal Air Force during World War II and the daring mission, led by Wing Commander Guy Gibson, to surgically strike three major dams in Germany, demonstrating unparalleled bravery and technical brilliance.

Once again, AVI-8 are honoured to stand alongside the Royal British Legion in their shared commitment to honour the service and sacrifice of the Armed Forces and have contributed over £55,000 through the sales of their bespoke watches since 2021, which has helped provide vital services and support to veterans, serving personnel and their families. This support has helped with issues ranging from financial challenges to physical and mental rehabilitation.

For each of the limited edition of 1,775 pieces sold, AVI-8 are pledging a donation of £17 from each sale to further bolster the Royal British Legion’s efforts in being an unwavering pillar of support for the Armed Forces community today.

The Dambuster Meca-quartz Limited Edition draws its inspiration from the cockpit instrumentation and colours of the legendary Avro Lancaster Bomber, with the dial becoming a captivating study of both the men and the machine that played pivotal roles in this significant wartime event. Looking beyond its symbolic representation, this is a precise and functional field timepiece, powered by the capable and precise hybrid mechanics of the meca-quartz movement.

The watch has been crafted with precision and historical reverence with a solid marine grade 43mm stainless steel case and mineral lens with anti-reflective coating and genuine leather strap. It is also water resistant to 500 metres. The multi-layered dial has Swiss Luminous applied indexes and at its heart a Japanese hybrid meca-quartz movement with a 24-hour subdial indicator. The design embraces the traditional poppy symbol which is prominently displayed at the 12 o’clock index as well as on the crown, in homage to the heroic sacrifices made during Operation Chastise, when eight of the 19 Lancasters failed to return and 53 of the 133 aircrew were lost in the raid.

The Dambuster 80th Anniversary Royal British Legion Meca-quartz Limited Edition comes in a choice of five colours: Onyx Black, Navy Blue, Midnight Blue, Merlot Red and Carbon Brown.

Limited to just 1,775 timepieces and packaged with a certificate of authenticity, each watch is uniquely numbered and presented in a custom gift box and is available to buy on AVI-8.com, priced at £255.
