Looking for something that packs a punch this festive season? Well, how about the new limited edition Twisted Stout from Smokehead Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky as we put together our guide for some Christmas gift ideas.
The limited edition expression Twisted Stout is Smokehead’s latest release and has been part finished in stout casks. Priced at RRP £49.99 with an ABV of 43%, it is only available to purchase exclusively from www.smokehead.com.
Packing that unmistakable Smokehead peaty punch, Twisted Stout brings an altogether smoother, sweeter and silkier experience in this delicious and rather different whisky. The creamy, malty stout flavour adds unfamiliar notes of rich chocolate and treacle toffee, vanilla ice cream, roasted nuts and toasted biscuits.
When tasting Twisted Stout, the usual island intensity of Smokehead comes disguised in sweet aromas of chocolate and treacle toffee, perhaps best described as maritime air meeting a good pint on the shore. It is somewhat unexpected and unusual, unsettling the senses.
The full-on flavour is both hot and soothing at the same time. Salty smoke makes its way around dry roasted nuts, toasted marshmallow, vanilla ice-cream and dare I say, a fresh pot of coffee. Then with the new flavours finally unlocked, the good old favourites of wood smoke and spices are reunited along with malty, toasted biscuits and zingy citrus making for a dark and delicious drink.
Smokehead also recently launched the first-ever pre-mixed single malt in a ready to drink can serve. The brand-new ready to drink range includes ‘Smokehead mixed with Cola’ and ‘Smokehead mixed with Ginger and Lime’. Both are available to buy online at Amazon and www.smokehead.com.
And if you still need some more ideas, then you will find Smokehead’s full range available on their website, which include the following.
Smokehead Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky is the original expression and is an intensely rich yet subtly sweet dram with immense smoke and notes of sea salt and spice, making for a vigorous whisky.
They say that Smokehead is an assault on your senses, that therefore makes High Voltage an all-out attack. The breath-taking intensity of the peat and smoke is not for the faint of hearted!
The rich, smoky, salty Islay whisky Rum Rebel is finished in spicy, sweet Caribbean rum casks which creates some mouth-watering tastes, while Smokehead Sherry Bomb is a peaty Islay single malt which sits in rich, sweet and spicy Spanish sherry casks, emerging as a fiery, explosive, heavy hitting dram.
Iain Weir, Smokehead Brand Director commented:
“Our unique and disruptive Smokehead thinking has led to some convention challenging, trail blazing, rule breaking whiskies over the years that don’t follow the usual traditions and rituals.
“We’ve clearly struck a chord with those who do things their way, live life on their own bold terms, and pick a whisky that’s as disinterested in the status quo as they are. Twisted Stout is as far away from a standard single malt as the combination of tastes, aromas and flavours inside the bottle.
“So, while all our releases come with an original twist, our latest might just be our most twisted yet. Which is just how we like things.”
Lastly, how about the perfect stocking filler with Smokehead’s first ever pre-mixed single malt in a can. A first for the whisky industry, this ready to drink cans are priced at RRP £2.50 each and are available from www.smokehead.com/shop where you will also find more expressions including Original and the Smokehead Skull Gift Tin.
