AVI-8 Watches have just launched the Hawker Hunter Atlas Dual Time Chronograph, which is a brand-new timepiece very much in keeping with the spirit of pioneering aircraft of the jet-age and gives a multiple time zone readout.

The watch pays tribute to what is arguably the most celebrated and utilised fighter jet in military aviation history, the Hawker Hunter, of which 1,972 were built by Hawker Siddeley, powered by a Rolls-Royce Avon turbojet engine. The jet’s maiden flight was on 20th July 1951, and it was renowned British fighter ace and test pilot Neville Duke who famously broke the world air speed record in 1953 when he flew a Hawker Hunter at 727.63 mph (1,171.01 km/h).

The “Black Arrows”, the RAF’s display unit, also set a record that still stands today by looping and barrel rolling 22 Hawker Hunters in formation at the Society of British Aircraft Constructors’ show at Farnborough in 1958. Since it first came into service, this extraordinary aircraft has served in 21 overseas air forces.

The new watch is housed in a contemporary and robust 12-sided 43mm stainless steel case in a nod to the Hawker Hunter’s flight instruments, with the multi-layered dial taking you on a tour through the aircraft’s instrument panel with intelligently designed sub-dial frames and hands. The skeletonised hour hand gives the time at your present location when travelling, whilst a third hand with a slim triangular tip, shows the prevailing hour back home. It is crowned by a 12-hour scale bezel which enables a third time zone to be displayed, giving you a view of the time in three different places at once.

The Hawker Hunter Atlas Dual Time Chronograph is equipped with the inner mechanics of a split time read-out Japanese chronograph movement, and much like the Hawker Hunter’s cockpit instruments, the multi-layered dial has intelligently designed subdial frames and hands. Swiss lume applied baton indexes complete a dial that is both easy to read and functional. The watch also features a date, dual time and 24-hour read-out.

There is a quality handcrafted genuine 22mm wide leather strap with contrasting military aviation inspired stitching attached to the watch for comfortable everyday use and it is fitted with a buckle. The watch is also water resistant to 50 metres.

The new AVI-8 Hawker Hunter Atlas Dual Time Chronograph is now available to buy directly from: Avi-8.co.uk, priced from between £310 to £330 and is available in Forest Green, Pavillion Blue, Hazard Red or Black OPs.
