German watch and clock manufacturer Junghans have launched two new FORM Bauhaus watches to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the renowned school for art and design relocating from Weimar, which was its original location, to Dessau and turning a colour wheel into a dial with the FORM A Bauhaus Edition and FORM Quartz Bauhaus Edition. This follows the launch of the FORM Ladies and FORM Quartz earlier this year.
To mark this anniversary, these two models are limited to just 1,000 pieces each and have been created by combining the functional design principles of Bauhaus with modern watch models to give two timepieces with clean lines that adhere to the Bauhaus credo that form must follow function.
The theory of colour has also been embraced by Junghans as colour theory has a long tradition. You only have to look at the likes of Renaissance man Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519), poet Johan Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832) as well as the many artists and teachers at Bauhaus in Dessau who have worked intensely with colour.
The Junghans’ designers have chosen restrained hues as the basis for the two anniversary watches to give the colours a fitting stage. For example, the FORM A Bauhaus Edition is completely black, which includes the dial, 39.3mm PVD-coated steel case as well as the strap.
In contrast, the FORM Quartz Bauhaus Edition has a fine silver dial in a simple 39.9mm stainless steel case. The indexes form a classic colour circle, with the three subtractive primary colours evenly spaced and mixed colours in between. The hands are a neutral grey and finely lined with luminous material. The dial is covered by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal lens with an anti-reflective coating so you can read the time in poor visibility. Both watches are water resistant to 50 metres.
The black PVD-coated FORM A Bauhaus is powered by an automatic self-winding Caliber J800.2 movement with a power reserve of up to 38 hours, whilst the FORM Quartz Bauhaus is powered by a high-quality J645-37 Swiss quartz movement. Both watches have a date window alongside the time display and are fitted with fine-link Milanese bracelets in the same colour as the case.
Both these anniversary watches offer minimalist shapes, purist dials and precise workmanship to reflect the Bauhaus concept of combining design and functionality.
The FORM Quartz Bauhaus Edition is priced at €590 whilst the FORM A Bauhaus Edition is priced at €1,290. For more information and to purchase these two watches, please visit: www.junghans.de.
